Biography

Classical accordionist Momir Novakovich (Serbian: Novaković) is known as a soloist and chamber musician who performed in various festivals and occasions across the world. He was the first classical accordionist to perform at the EU parliament in Bruxelles. Momir has won over 40 awards in international music competitions.

Between 2003 and 2010, Momir competed in competitions all over the Europe, including, among others, the International Star Ways competition in Kragujevac, Serbia, where he won 1st prize for four years in a row from 2004 – 2008. Each of those years he won 1st prize at the International Accordion Days competition in Smederevo, Serbia. In 2008 he won the CIA Coupe Mondiale in Glasgow, Scotland and took the 2nd place on the international accordion competition “Città di Castelfidardo” in Italy, which are the highlights of his competition carrier. In 2009. he won two 2nd prizes in different categories of chamber music on the international accordion competition in Pula, Croatia. In 2011 he received Ambassador Club prize in Lugano as the reward for his musical achievements and in 2014 the 2nd prize on the internal all-instruments competition Prix Credit Suisse at conservatory of Lugano. Momir graduated with distinction from Serbia’s most prestigious accordion high school, Kragujevac Music School, studying under one of the most successful accordion teachers in the world Miljan Bjeletic.

In the class of Leslaw Skorski, at Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland, he gained the title of Master in Arts of Music. At the same university Momir finished the Bachelor of Arts in Music. He was also specialising in concert performance with Stephane Chapuis at the music academy of Lausanne, Switzerland. He was supported by Fritz Gerber foundation and by HRH Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia. He is currently based in Stavanger, Norway.

Momir plays on the conservatory line Bugari Armandos accordion, “Bayan OMNIA”.
